Abstract

519,179. Sliding doors. ROUSE, E. E., and SILENT GLIDING DOORS, Ltd. Sept. 14, 1938, Nos. 26838/38 and 14258/39. [Class 20 (iii)] A sliding door, particularly for aircraft hangars, garages, and like buildings is formed of vertical hollow metal units hinged together and supported on internal or external rail rollers, the articulated structure being guided for sliding and provided with driving-means, manually- or power-operated, for moving the door as a whole or in parts. As shown, the door comprises a series of hollow units,3 each formed with diagonallyopposed flanges 4 and recesses 5 to inter-engage with adjacent units which are connected by hinged plates 6 arranged in pairs adjacent the top and bottom of the door. At these places, the hinge-pins 8 are adapted to be engaged by recessed plates 17 on sprockets 16 which may be driven from a motor 24. As shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the lower run of the door is fitted with rollers 10 travelling on rails 11. At the upper run, the hinge-pins 8 are extended into brackets 12 carrying pairs of rollers 13 embracing a guide-rail 14. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the door is hung by trolleys 28 in channel-tracks 29, and guided at the bottom by rollers 32 engaging a channel 33. To enhance the weather-proofing effect of the lapped edges of the door units. they may be fitted with rubber or like compressible strips and the units may be lined with wood, asbestos boards &c. ,Further, some or all of the units may be fitted with. electric heaters arranged to induce an upward current of warm air.
