Abstract

518,884. Making moulds, dies, tools, type, type matrices &c. METALLIZING ENGINEERING CO., Inc., Sept. 6, 1938, No. 26061. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1937. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XVI] Building up articles by spraying.-A metal negative of a metal object is made by spraying the object with a metal until it is covered with applied metal forming a coherent coating and thereafter removing the coating from the object. During spraying, or at any rate during the formation of the initial coating, the object must be at or above the temperature at which adhesion of the sprayed metal to the metal of the object begins and below the temperature at which the coating inseparably adheres to the object. These temperatures are found by experiment for the particular metals concerned. The coating may be separated from the object by means such as quenching or if the metal of the object has a lower melting point, the object may be subsequently melted out. The process is stated to be applicable to the making of moulds, dies, tools and metal type or a matrix therefor. The detached coating or negative may be given a backing of a different metal by spraying or pouring.
