[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 9, 1939.] [Class 52 (ii)] In an invalids' bed, the support 1 for the patient is carried by a number of articulated frameworks 31 adapted to be extended or collapsed by the rotation of a screw threaded .spindle 34-37 co-operating with the joints of the said .frameworks. The frames 31 are pivotally mounted on supports 9 on which may be :mounted a mattress 13. The -frame 1 is preferably of steel tubing and .may be adjustable in length. Each of the'four frames 31 consists of four pairs of rods, pivoted at the sides to blocks 48, 49 through which pass right and left handed screwed rods 34 - 37. The rods at each side are connected by a chain 20 and are provided with hand wheels. Two of the frames 31 may have the links provided with toothed wheels in engagement at the upper and lower corners. These frames may be used alone to support the bed 1 when placed transversely at the head and foot thereof. On the frame 1 are pivotally and detachably mounted short frames 2 adjustable angularly by means of supports 5 having hooks engaging the end of the frame 1. The frame 1 may comprise or support a frame 34, Fig. 4, to which are attached cross members 38, 40 of steel wrapped in quilting and attached by springs to the frame 34, and members 39 of canvas &c. preferably provided with buckles. Alternatively a frame provided with three pieces of canvas, the middle.one of which may have an aperture, may be provided. The stands 9, Fig. 1, frames 31 and frames 1 may be combined in various ways to form beds for different purposes.
