Abstract
517,118. Alloys. POLLAK, J. E. (Vereinigte Oberschlesische Huttenwerke Akt.-Ges.). July 13, 1938, No. 20841. [Class 82 (i)] A steel free from aluminium, nickel and copper except as impurities contains 0.19-0.8 per cent. of carbon, 1.1-4 per cent. of manganese, 0.6-2 per cent. of silicon, 1.01-5 per cent. of chromium, and 0.05-0.9 per cent. of molybdenum, with or without 0.01-0.25 per cent. of vanadium. Part of the chromium may be replaced by 0.3-2 per cent. of tungsten at the rate of one part of tungsten to two parts of replaced chromium, the minimum chromium content being at least 1 per cent. The steel is particularly applicable for the construction of articles having a thickness of over 50 mm., and such articles may be heated, quenched, and re-heated, and may be case-hardened.
