516,753. Electric tests. STEVENS, A. H. (Sperry Products, Inc.). July 15, 1938, No. 21051. [Class 37] Metal articles are tested for flaws by applying alternating or pulsating current and providing a number of detector coils disposed around the periphery of the article, the coils receiving induced e.m.f. which shows variations due to flaws. The coils may constitute a helix 16, Fig. 1, closely encircling the metal tube 1 under test, and may have tappings 17 enabling different portions of the periphery to be tested. A single turn 18, Fig. 3, may be taken all round so as to balanceout induced e.m.f. in the absence of the flaws. The detector coils may be disposed inside instead of outside the tube. The coils may be connected to static contact recifiers or thermionic valves in circuit with indicators. In one arrangement, Fig. 15, detector coils 36 are connected respectively to triode rectifiers 37, and comparative readings of normal and varied anode current are taken on meters M<1>, M<2>, M<3>.
