[Class 130] - In apparatus for feeding cut tobacco, in_ which an endless conveyer 3 has tobaccoengaging teeth thereon, a grid 4 provided with rigid bars is inclined relatively to the conveyer and projections on a raking device 6 are moved between the bars of the grid in timed relationship with the movement of the conveyer and in a direction opposed to the movement of the conveyer, to remove surplus tobacco from the conveyer. In one form, Fig. 1, the conveyer 3 is a carded roller receiving tobacco from a carded roller 2 in a hopper 1, and the tobacco is showered by a picker roller 17 on a distributor roller 18, from which a picker 20 showers tobacco into the trough 21 of a cigarette-making machine. The bars of the grid 4 are supported by rods 15 fixed to the hopper frames 13, or may be mounted so as to yield under pressure. The raking device 6 is pivotally supported on links 10 pivoted to brackets 12, and connected at its rear end to a pair of eccentrics 14 rotated in timed relationship to the roller 3. In a modification, Fig. 4, the raking device 6 is curved and is linked at its forward end to the spindle of the roller 3 by a link 22, and the grid 4 is similarly curved. In a further form, Fig. 5, the conveyer 3 is an endless band and the raking device 6 is carried by crank discs 23.
