Abstract

515,288. Thermionic valves. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., COSGROVE, C. W., and GANT, E. C. R. June 15, 1938, No. 17807. [Class 39 (i)] In a thermionic valve comprising at least one wire grid closely surrounding the cathode, part or parts of the wire forming this grid is or are coated with adherent insulating material and displaced relatively to neighbouring non- insulated parts of the grid so as to bear against and locate the cathode. In the form shown, the wire grid 2.wound on supports 3 has deformed parts 4, 4<1> coated with adherent insulating layers 5, 51 bearing against the filament 1. The insulation material such as magnesia or alumina, may be applied, for example, by painting or spraying a suspension, before or after the deformation. The cathode may be indirectly heated. The Provisional Specification describes a grid formed of a plurality of wires welded to supports, a kinked or bowed wire being substituted for one of the grid wires, and refers to a grid formed of wire mesh and to the use of porcelain as the insulating material. Specifications 285,537, and 295,904, [both in Class 39 (i)], are referred to.
