Abstract

514,662. Gravity - separation apparatus. COOMBS, J. A. June 2, 1938, No. 16473. [Class 111] Sludge scrapers carried by endless chains are provided with buoying means to reduce friction on the surface scraped. As shown scrapers attached to endless chains 12 passing round pulleys 16, 17 are formed with hollow bodies 37, Fig. 4, enclosing inflatable tubes 38, and have flanges 40 to which leather wipers or squeegees 41 are attached, The bodies 37 are open at the ends or perforated so that liquid has access to the space within, not occupied by the tubes 38. Each scraper is attached by arms 36 to skids 34 or wheels which travel on runways or rails extending along the floor of the tank and are connected by crossbars 33. The skids are connected to the chains by drag links 43 and motion of the scrapers relative to the chains, as they pass downwards into operative position, is limited by curb chains 46. The chains are kept in alignment with the skids by being passed between pairs of horns 48 on the scraper body. Specification 514,627 is referred to.
