Abstract
514,324. Boots and shoes and heels therefor. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION. May 3, 1938, No. 13106. Convention date, May 7, 1937. Addition to 501,057. [Class 17 (ii)] A resilient tongue overlies a transverse ledge formed at the forward end of, and extending into, the attaching face of a shoe heel to grip the rear end of a short outsole member of any thickness which may be passed between it and the ledge. This tongue 22 may be integral with a metal plate 20 attached by nails or screws 18 to the attaching face of the heel 10, one or more holes 26 being provided for the passage of heel-attaching nails. Alternatively, the tongue may be integral with a metal strip having integral prongs by which it may be retained on the heel. The tongue may project sufficiently far forward to take the place of a shank stiffener.
