509,871. Making emulsions. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. July 13, 1938, Nos. 20835 and 20836. Convention dates, July 21, 1937, and Aug. 27, 1937. Samples furnished. [Class 1(i)] [Also in Group IV] Sulphonium salts which are stated to be emulsifying agents are prepared by reacting together sulphuric acid or an aliphatic, cyclic or aliphatic-cyclic sulphonic acid, a saturated monohydric, primary alcohol and an aliphaticaromatic thioether. In examples the following products are prepared : dimethylcetyl sulphoniumtoluenesulphonate, diethyldodecylsulphonium-#-naphthalenesulphonate, methyldiethylsulphonium sulphonate of a mineral oil sulphonic acid, #-chlorethylmethylcetylsulphonium-p-toluenesulphonate, dimethylcetylsulphoniummethylsulphate, diethyldodecylsulphoniumdodecylsulphate and #-chlorethylmethyldodecylsulphide. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2(5) of the following products : (1) dimethyl-sec:- hexadecylsulphoniummethylsulphate ; (2) diethylcetylsulphoniumcetylsulphate; (3) methylethyltolylsulphoniummethylsulphate ; (4) methylethyldodecylsulphonium-p-chlorbenzenesulphonate ; (5) methylethyldodecylsulphoniumethanesulphonate. The following components are also mentioned: benzene-mdisulphonic acid, o-phenolsulphonic acid, cetylbenzenesulphonic acid, o-sulphobenzoic acid, sulphanilic acid, dodecanesulphonic acid and isobutanol.
