Abstract
508,848. Extruding pattern fillets. PHILLIPS, Ltd., J. W. & C. J., and HAYLOCK, C. Jan. 3, 1938, No. 120. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In making fillets for filling the sharp angles of patterns for use in casting metals a cylinder of bees' wax or other plastic material is inserted, from the left, into a tube 1 the piston p being withdrawn to the right. A die plate 17, having holes 20 to engage location studs, openings 18 of a shape to produce the fillet or fillets 25 required, and projections 19 to guide the wax to these openings, is then placed over the open end of the tube 1 and secured by a hinged plate 22. The piston rod 5 has a screw portion 4 which engages the threaded bore of a tube 2 secured to the tube 1. A worm-wheel or spur gear 8 feathered on the rod 5 and engaged by hand- or power-operated gearing 12 is used to rotate and thus advance the rod 5, the piston having a pivoted end plate 28 which advances without rotating. The tube 1 has a jacket 26 for liquid and this and, if desired, the die plate are heated to about 70‹ F.
