[Class 44] A fastening device for parachute harness straps comprises a cylindrical casing a provided with peripheral slots to receive the attachment eyes A secured to the strap ends, the casing housing a disc t slidable on guide pillars u and loaded by a spring y, the upper face of the disc having chamfered projections z adapted to snap into engagement with the eyes under action of the spring. The disc is depressed, to effect simultaneous release of the straps, by a plunger p actuated by a handle e which normally lies against the face of the casing, with knob f projecting over the edge, release being effected by raising knob f to turn the handle to a position at right angles to the casing face. The handle is mounted, between guard ribs d, g on the casing, on a fixed pin j which passes through a slot i in the handle, a tension spring k holding the handle with its end q against guard rib g so that the handle cannot be raised until given a preliminary movement to the right to register end q with a recess n leading to the end of plunger p, which is operated by a cam toe r when the handle is raised. When the handle is moved slightly from the release position, spring k completes the movement to the normal position shown. As described, peripheral slots are provided for four eyes A, one of which is shown. The heads of pillars u serve as lateral guides to the inserted eyes. As described, the spring y is cruciform with bowed limbs and may be laminated. The cover w of the casing has a slotted extension x to receive a strap connecting the casing to a waist belt or other support. The cross-bars of eyes A to which the straps are connected have U-form liners formed by bending rectangular pieces of metal about the base, to minimize wear of the straps.
