507,736. Making cone - shaped caps &c. TRIGGS, W. W. (Universal Paper Products Co.) Nov. 18, 1938, No. 33622. [Classes 66 and 94 (ii)] A cone-shaped cup &c., having a pointed apex, is formed from the end of a continuous paper strip 10, intermittently advanced and bearing adhesive areas A, B, C, by mandril 12 rotating about its own axis and rolling on a platform, a knife-edge 20 on the former cooperating with the platform to progressively sever the blank from the strip, along the line 22, as it is wound. In a modification, Fig. 6, adhesive areas 60, 62, 64 are provided on the strip 50, the mandril 52 successively severing the blanks along lines 54, 56, 58 and winding the same to cone-form. In a further modification, Fig. 9, adhesive areas 78 are provided on the strip 70, the mandril 74 successively severing the blanks along lines 82, 76 and winding the same to cone-form, clipper knives being preferably provided to round off the blank corners at 86, 88 to avoid sharp edges.
