[Class 108 (i)] In a hydraulically operated tipping-lorry of the kind in which the body 18 is mounted upon and hinged to a sub-frame 11 which in turn is supported on the chassis 10 by means of a turn-table 22, 23 so that the body can be tipped in any direction, fluid under pressure for actuating the hydraulic ram 26 is conveyed through a swivelling connection 30 located at the centre of the turntable. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, the body 13 is hinged to the rear edge 20 of the subframe 11 in its normal position, while the lower plate 23 of the turntable is supported on spaced blocks 24 on frame members 25. Rotation of the sub-frame prior to tipping is effected either by hand for light or medium loads or by mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means for heavy loads. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the sub-frame is rotated by means of a worm gear 36 in combination with a flexible metal strap 32a passing around the upper plate 32 of the turn-table; or the plate 22 may be combined with an annular or a lantern gear-wheel. In another construction, Fig. 8 (not shown), the plate 22 is rotated by hand, while its position is controlled by hydraulic or pneumatic means. In order to relieve the chassis from excessive load on the side to which tipping occurs, the body may be fitted with plates which contact with the wheel tyres at a certain inclination of the body. At its rear end the body is preferably fitted with a door which is adapted to hinge alternatively about either its upper or its lower edge, and which may also be vertically adjustable.
