Abstract
505,263. Aircraft alighting-gear. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., WILLIAMS, D. L. H., and CROCOMBE, F. F. Nov. 4, 1937, Nos. 34409/38 (divided out of 505,109), and 34148/37. [Class 4] In aircraft alighting-gear in which nose and main landing elements 11, 12 are disposed on opposite sides of the centre of gravity of the aircraft so that during alighting the tail structure is maintained clear of the ground, the nose landing element is retractable and may be positively located in a plurality of positions in order that the aircraft may alight in different attitudes. As shown, the wheels 11, 12 are retractable on folding of, e.g. struts 15. The struts 15 are foldable independently of each other and the wheel 11 is still operative when retracted. The shock-absorber may include relatively telescoping parts 35, 39 connected by links 40. The part 35 carries a piston 36 and the part 39 is divided by a partition 38. A piston 42 moves in the space above the partition and the part 39 is movable, under fluid pressure, about the piston'to vary the position of the wheel 33.
