Abstract

505,189. Tempering glass. PILKING- TON BROS., Ltd. (Soc. Anon. des Manufactures des Glaces et Produits Chimiques de St. Gobain, Chauny, & Cirey) Nov. 5, 1937, No. 30392. [Class 56] A device for supporting a glass sheet during tempering consists of a pair of grids 1 carrying pads 9 which make contact with the sheet, or nearly so, when the grids are brought together with the sheet between them. The grids are hinged to a support 3, when air is used as the chilling-medium, or to a crane or the like when the glass is chilled by immersion in a liquid. The pads 9 are of heat-insulating material and they may be mounted yieldingly on the grids. The device may be used with the chilling-apparatus described in Specification 505,188.
