504,114. Returning combustion products to furnaces. THOMPSON WATER TUBE BOILERS, Ltd., J., and PLUMMER, G. A. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 27911. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] A proportion of the gases flowing from a boiler combustion chamber 1 to an outlet 6 are withdrawn from the stream and returned either to the combustion chamber or to a region between it and the convection heating surface 3 of a superheater, reheater, &c. dependent upon the direction in which the final steam temperature tends to vary. A fan 9 delivers this gas stream through dampered ducts 7, 10 and 11 or 12, the dampers being arranged to return the gas to the combustion chamber if the steam temperature is to be increased and to the region in front of the superheater if it is to be reduced. This region may be immediately after a convection heating surface 2 of the boiler. Specification 471,674 is referred to.
