[Class 68 (in i In a machine as claimed in the parent Specification, to prevent accumulation of cuttings, the rotary disc beneath the cutterchain driving sprocket is provided on its underside with projections; further, a segmental, arcuate or like guide-is provided close to, or extending over, the edge of the disc at least at the place where the cutter chain first passes over the disc. As shown, projections 4 of copper or brass are provided on the underside of the disc 1, being welded thereto, or forming the heads of rivets, and preferably being arranged iu radial, spiral, ring or staggered relation ; radial or other ribs 9 may also be provided. Projections may also be provided on the skid plate 3, and the projections on the disc pass between them. A guard 6, preferably of highly-tempered steel, is provided where the cutter chain 5, according to the direction of cutting, first passes over the disc 1 ; the guard may be integral with the skid plate, or secured thereto by welding, riveting, &c., or it may bo carried by the jib hanger. Each guard has an arcuate side 7 fitting closely against the edge of the disc 1, and increases in thickness towards the disc so that its side 7 projects above the disc. Further guards 10 are provided at the rear end of the skid plate 3. The disc 1 may be stepped or chamfered at its edge, and the guards 6 correspondingly shaped to overlie the disc ; also the underside of the disc may be bevelled or curved upwardly towards its edge.
