Abstract
502,812. Electrode furnaces. AKT.-GES. FUR STICKSTOFFDUNGER. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25948. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1936. [Class 39 (iii)] A furnace, more particularly for use in the manufacture of calcium carbide and ferro-silicon, and in which current is passed through the charge, comprises at least two hearths separated by a wall 11 extending above the hearths and having an aperture 5 with a cooled sill to permit material to flow from the upper hearth 1 to the lower hearth 2 which is provided with an upper tap-hole 7 for carbide and a lower one 6 for iron and ferro-silicon. In a threephase furnace two electrodes 8 are arranged above the upper hearth and one electrode 10 is arranged above the lower one. The cooling is effected by pipes 4.
