Abstract
502,638. Hose unions. TRIGGS, W. W. (Rotadisk Apparatebau Ges.) Feb. 26, 1938, No. 6150. [Class 99 (i)] A hose union comprises a socket 3, Fig. 1, and a spigot 7 in screw-threaded engagement at 4. One end 15 of the spigot is tapered, and the other end is provided with a flange 9 adapted to be located between one end of the socket and, with the interposition of packing 11, the flared end of a pipe 12 coupled thereto by a nut 14, the socket being formed internally as shown with a tapered surface, corresponding to the surface 15, terminating in a recess 16. The arrangement is such that the hose end is subjected to a compression which gradually increases from the outor edge of the socket to the recess 16, and then becomes negligible. In a modification. Fig. 4, one end of the nipple 22 is formed with a spherical jointing surface 24 and the internally tapered portion of the socket 20 is provided with a screw-thread 21. A tool for assembling the union is shown in Fig. 6 and comprises a mandrel 29 held in a socket 30 provided with a handle &c. 34. The spigot is threaded on to the mandrel and secured thereto by a nut 26, and the spigot is then inserted into the hose end located in the socket and finally brought into screw-threaded engagement with the latter by rotation of the socket. For use with the union of Fig. 1, the socket 30 is formed with a hexagonal end to engage a like recess 8 in the spigot thereof.
