Abstract

502,056. Hydraulic transmission. HYDRAULIC BRAKE CO. Jan. 20, 1938, No. 1972. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1937. Addition to 443,154. [Class 103 (i)] A hydraulic transmission system comprises a low-pressure piston 90 forward of the highpressure piston 48, the pressure being gradually transferred from the lowto the high-pressure piston. The high-pressure piston 48 is formed by a part 54 and a flange 68 formed on a sleeve 76 integral with the low-pressure piston 90. A spring 70 is arranged between the flange 68 and a flange 58 on the part 54. The part 54 is in one with a piston 64 working in the sleeve 76 and carrying a rod 100 having a head 102 fitting in an aperture in the face of the piston 90. When the brake pedal, which is connected to the piston rod 120, is depressed, liquid is forced into the brake pipe lines 36 until the pressure. is sufficient to overcome the spring 70 whereupon the part 54 and the piston 90 approach one another and the head 102 raises the leak-proof cup 112 and connects the spaces in front of the piston 90 to the space 20. The pressure in this space however has been reduced in view of the movement of and the difference in the diameters of the pistons. The parts therefore move back again until a higher pressure is reached in the chamber 22 whereupon this cycle of operations is repeated. Finally the pressure attained is such that the spring 70 is permanently compressed and the space 20 is open to the pipe lines 36 and the braking pressure is exerted by the high-pressure piston which comprises the cups 74, 104 mounted on the flange 68, the piston 64 respectively.
