[Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] High - tension field coils are wound by arranging the wire layers 2 on conical surfaces 4, the apices of which lie on the axis of the coil 1, and in order to obtain steep inclinations of the conical surfaces, which minimizes risk of disruptive electric discharges between the layers, the wire is passed through an adhesive varnish, e.g. a rapidly drying insulating varnish before winding. The coil may have flanges 3 perpendicular to the axis, Fig. 1, or inclined thereto, Fig. 2, The core of the coil may have a circular or polygonal cross section.
