501,310. Hammers; handle fixings. STEPHENS, W. R., and STEPHENS BELT. ING CO., Ltd. Feb. 16, 1938, No. 4798. [Classes 61 (i) and 61 (ii)] In hammers having metal heads of the kind provided at one or each end with a striking piece of leather, rubber, wood, vulcanized fibre, copper, lead, or other relatively soft material, the head a has at one or each end an internally screw-threaded socket b for receiving the striking piece or pieces c which may be formed with a corresponding screw thread or may have a plain periphery and be pressed into the screw-threaded socket b, the outer end of which is contracted by external pressure. The threaded socket or sockets may be interrupted by longitudinal grooves d. The handle e may be attached to the head by providing the hole f with a screw-thread which may be interrupted by grooves g, or, if the hole f is oval, Fig. 4, it may be provided with retaining projections or rows of teeth h.
