Abstract

501,016. Pressure - relieving devices for fluids; transformers. CHURCHER, B. A. G., KING, A. J., ELLIS, A. G., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 16, 1937, No. 22511. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXV] Relates to means for absorbing vibrations in liquid, more particularly in connection with liquid-immersed apparatus, such as electric transformers, which pulsate, and consists in providing one or more devices each including a flexible wall of thin metal &c. secured round its periphery to a rigid framework to form a wall of a gas-filled chamber, the liquid passing laterally over said wall. The flexible walls may be of thin copper, aluminium, cellulose, &c., and coated, if desired, with sound absorbing material, and the gas-filled chambers may be subdivided. The chambers may be wholly or partly filled with porous material. Further sound absorption may be obtained by forming an adjacent part of a liquid duct of flexible piping or of enlarged square or rectangular section with opposite walls flexible. In Fig. 1, a transformer 16 is mounted on resilient blocks 17 in an oil tank 18 with cooling tubes 19, 20, and may have sound absorbing chambers 21 as above supported on brackets 22, or a sound absorbing chamber 23, Fig. 2, is arranged around the mouth 24 of the pipes and a second chamber 26 opposite the mouth, the liquid flowing between the flexible 'walls 25, 27; the chamber 23 may surround the mouths of a number of pipes across which the chamber 26 extends. In Fig. 4, a transformer core 30, with windings.31 ... 33, is resiliently supported in a tank by means such as cork or rubber or by springs 48 surrounding spigot and socket members 50, 51, vertical -gas-filled chambers 38 are arranged round the core with spacing blocks 47 ensuring clearance above and below, the chambers comprising flexible walls 42, 43, Fig. 6, stretched across frames 44 and separated by a massive partition 41 and provided with flexible intermediate supports 45. Specification 380,136, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
