Abstract

500,885. Carpet - sweepers; handles. DICKEY, C. Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22715. [Classes 61 (i) and 138 (i)] The handle w of a carpet-sweeper is secured to a short stem q projecting from the centre of a rod p rotatably mounted in the end walls of the sweeper casing a. The stem projects through a slot in the cover b, and carries a sliding dust shield y. One end of the rod projects from the casing and carries a plate s, which is biassed by springs t normally to hold the stem perpendicular to the cover, and has notches v co-operating with a spring u to retain the stem in definite angular positions when the sweeper is in use. Alternatively, the end of the rod may be cranked and co-operate ,with a spring-supported plate or a bent wire spring. The stem may comprise a plain or screw-threaded socket to receive the handle, and a fixed dust shield may be provided inside the casing. According to the Provisional Specification, the rod may be enclosed in a tube or shield within the casing.
