500,716. Electric signalling systems. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd., HARDING, W. G., and NISBET, R. H. Mav 7. 1937. No. 37101/38. Divided out of 498,738. [Class 40 (i)] A system for transmitting indications from an indicator, such as the sensitive element of a gyro-compass, comprises parts 101 and 102 of a twopart controller mounted on a sensitive element 99 and a follow-up member 100 respectively, and causing a servomotor 104 to rotate an electrical transmitter 111, the signals from which are amplified by means of a constantly running generator 115 described, in Specification 500,714, the field windings of the generator being excited by the signals. Specifications 360,428, [Group XXXVII], and 417,995 describe suitable arrangements for controlling the servomotor. The amplified signals are transmitted over lines 116, 117, and 118 to receivers, one, 119 of which drives the follow-up member. The receivers in this example are of the selsyn type and the transmitter is a circular potentiometer supplied with A.C. Devices which may be used in such a system for correcting the follow-up element of the gyro-compass for the " North-steaming error are described in Specifications 433,494 and 461,424, [both in Group XX].
