Abstract

500,446. Automatic control systems. MIJER, M. D., and EYKMAN, C.H. Oct. 26, 1937, No. 29227. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XIII] Humidity in a room is controlled by means of a single vessel 2 containing regenerable moisture - absorbing material 7 such as silica gel and including a fan 4 and a humidostat (not shown) controlling it, a heater 11, a two-way valved outlet 9, 10, and a control device 18 which actuates the fan, heater, and valve after rendering the humidostat inactive. When the humidity is excessive the humidostat causes the fan to pass the room air through the dryer and back into the room through outlet 9. At regular intervals however, a regeneration period is established by device 18 consisting of a clock switch operating the fan irrespective of the humidostat, closing outlet 9, opening outlet 10 to the outside atmosphere and at the same time switching on the heater, so that heated air passes through the material and is discharged from the room. In another embodiment regeneration is initiated and terminated by means of a second humidostat affected by air issuing from the dryer and constituting the control 18. A timing device may retard the re-opening of the conduit into the room after a regeneration period until the air has been sufficiently cooled, i.e. after the lapse of a preferably adjustable interval or by means of a thermostat.
