Abstract

500,024. Cycle brakes. RADNALL, E. A. July 22, 1938, No. 21763. [Class 136 (i)] In brake mechanism for cycles &c. of the type in which block-carrying levers are moved inwards, to engage opposite sides of the wheel rim, by means of a resilient stirrup connected to Bowden or other operating-mechanism, each lever is connected to.the adjacent limb of the resilient stirrup at a position which is adjustable longitudinally of such limb. Each brake lever 16 is pivoted on a bolt 11, Fig. 2, (with head 15), mounted in a bracket 9 forming part of a clip 14 secured to the fork blade. The outer end of each lever 16 is formed with a hole to receive a reduced part 20 of a rotatable pin 19, through a transverse hole in which passes one limb of a U-shaped resilient stirrup 25, the ends of which are screw-threaded for adjustable connection to the pin, as by nuts 28, 29. The stem 34 of a brake-block holder 33 is secured by a nut 36 to a lug 35 formed integrally with the upper edge of the lever 16. The central portion 26 of the stirrup 25 engages an angle-section bridge-piece 37 formed with a slotted lug for the attachment of the nippled end 42 of a Bowden wire 43, the casing 44 of which abuts against a bracket 46 bolted &c. to the fork crown &c.
