Abstract

499,768. Photographic anti-halation layers. BLOCH, O. F. July 27, 1937, No. 20817. [Class 98 (ii)] Light-sensitive photographic material, especially for use in the reversal process, has a front, back or intermediate anti-halation layer comprising finely divided or colloidal silver sulphide particles suspended in a binding agent which is permeable to a chemical solution by which the silver sulphide particles may be removed after exposure of the material. The anti-halation layer may be formed by preparing a mixture of gelatine and silver nitrate, converting the silver nitrate to silver sulphide by treatment with a water-soluble sulphide, setting the mixture and washing out the soluble salts, and then coating the silver sulphide suspension so formed on to a support or on to a light-sensitive layer carried on a support. An excess of silver nitrate in relation to the soluble sulphide may be used, which excess is converted to silver halide.
