499,641. Water-tube hot-water boilers; finned heat - exchange tubes. OMNIA MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., CHAPMAN, F. W., and FORSHAW. A. July 22, 1937, No. 21167/38. Divided out of 499,597. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] In a gas-heated water heater in which hot gases are directed between imperforate sheetmetal fins 20 secured apart on the outside of one or more horizontal water tubes 19, the fins are interspersed in several sets so that in any one set, the edges 24 presented to the gas flow are all at the same distance from a plane transverse to said flow, but at a different distance from that plane than the edges of the other set or sets. Two sets of fins may each have a straight edge ; or the lower edges may be of wavy or jagged form 26, each set having its edges in the same line, but different from the other set. The fins may be spaced by bending the lateral edges 25 of each fin into a U-shape in opposite directions. Rims 22 and slots 23 are formed on the fins, so that a stick of solder or brazing material extending through the slots enables the fins to be secured simultaneously. The fins. may be identically formed but oppositely arranged on the tubes. The heater has a water-heating coil 15 and a cowl 30 with a deflecting plate 29. Specification 499,597 is referred to.
