Abstract

499,486. Attaching knobs to spindles. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1938, No. 29435. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1937. [Class 44] A knob is detachably secured to a spindle, such as a control spindle of an electric heater, radio apparatus, &c. by a bowed spring carried by the knob and adapted to snap into recesses at opposite sides of the spindle. As shown, the knob 10a, which may be of moulded material suitably ornamented externally, is of hollow form and has a web 10c with a non-circular aperture 17 which receives the correspondingly non-circular end of the spindle 16. A bowed spring has a loop 20 to receive a screw 23 securing the spring to the web, and limbs 21 which straddle the spindle and snap into recesses 22. Excessive separation of the limbs is prevented by the inturned ends 24 of the limbs engaging in a recess 26 in the web, in which they are frictionally retained against withdrawal when the knob is being detached.
