Abstract

499,006. Saddles. BERGWALL, E. June 27, 1938, No. 18963. [Class 136 (iii)] Hollow (e.g. pneumatic) bodies of rubber or other elastic material forming the main part or seat of cycle saddles are provided with a longitudinal flange of substantially the same length as the body and extending downwardly from its base, which is supported by plates of angular cross-section secured on each side of the flange and clamped to the saddle pillar or other support on the cycle. A hollow rubber &c. body 1 is divided at its rear part by a partition 2 into two compartments 3, and is inflated through a valve 6 or it may be filled with sponge rubber. On its base is a longitudinal flange 7, to which two angular supporting-plates 9 are secured by transverse botts 8, which also pass through a bar 4 engaging a downwardly-opening groove in the flange 7. The bar 4 has a downward projection 10, which is slotted or provided with a series of apertures 11 for longitudinal adjustment on a bolt 13, by which the bar and the plates 9 are clamped to the upper forked end 14 of the saddle pillar 12. The inclination of the saddle is adjusted about the bolt 13, and the clamping after adjustment is assisted by a set-screw 19. In a modification, the bar 4 is provided with a forked downward projection which embraces a slotted or apertured bar formed at the upper end of the saddle pillar 12.
