Abstract

Artificial stone blocks made of a calcium hydrosilicate-containing material which has been rendered porous by means of gas producing substances, e.g. metal powders, or froth producing agents are hardened in two stages, first by treating them with wet steam or other wet gaseous hardening medium, and then by treating them with hot high-pressure steam, which may be superheated, or hot compressed air or other hot dry gaseous hardening medium. In the first stage the steam supplied to the hardening chamber, or the hardening chamber itself, may be cooled, as by means of a fan so that the steam is entirely or partly condensed; or water may be introduced into steam or hot compressed air; or warm compressed air or other gas is passed through water in the lower part of the chamber.
