[Class 60] Apparatus for abrasively treating metal articles com prises an abrasive throwing wheel 11, a flexible endless conveyer 8 mounted so as to form a concave trough portion for supporting the articles, means for effecting a travelling movement of the conveyer for tumbling the articles thereon and means for advancing the articles across the belt and through the abrasive stream The abrasive throwing whee comprises throwing blade: 13, a control member 15 and and an impeller to which abrasive is supplied from a hopper 23. Spent abrasive is returned to the hopper by screw conveyers 32, 33 and an elevator 34. The endless conveyer 8 comprises a flexible belt having lugs 91 adapted to engage in corresponding grooves 92 in rollers 39 and 40 by which the belt is supported and driven. Articles are fed into the trough at one end, across the belt and are discharged at the other end of the trough the feeding and discharge openings of the housing being provided with flexible curtains. In order to effect the feeding of the articles along the trough, the bottom of the trough is made sloping by mounting the rollers 39, 40 in non-parallel relation as shown in Fig. 1. The shaft 41 of each roller is connected at its ends by a knuckle joint 46 to a stub shaft 57, the stub shaft at one end of the roller being mounted in a fixed bearing 44 and that at the other end in a bearing 61. The two bearings 61 are adjustable towards or away from each other by a threaded shaft 82. To permit such adjustment each shaft includes a keyed slidable connection 71. The feeding of the articles may be assisted by articulated plates 115, 116 arranged at an angle to the belt. In a modified form, Fig. 7, the conveyer comprises a plurality of bars 250 extending between endless chains 241 each mounted around three sprocket wheels 270, 271 and 272. The bars 250 are formed by angle bars mounted in pairs with their fianges back to back and extending through slots 253, Fig. 8, in lateral extensions 252 of the chain links 260. Lugs 254 may be provided on the bars to assist the feeding of the articles along the trough. A number of abrasive throwing wheels may be provided.
