Abstract

Embedding masses, especially for dental purposes, comprising mainly calcium sulphate plaster and siliceous materials, are modified by the addition of ammonium salts of inorganic acids, e.g. diammonium phosphate, and ammonium chloride, nitrate, sulphate, or pyrophosphate. The addition has the effect of increasing the expansion on setting and the thermal expansion. In an example, an embedding mass comprising 800 parts of quartz powder, 312 parts of a semi-hydrate gypsum having the physical properties set forth in claim 1 of Specification 412,988 and 120 parts of plaster of Paris is modified by the addition of 1 per cent of diammonium phosphate or ammonium chloride or nitrate.
