[Class 96] [Also in Groups I, XIV, and XV] A mat by means of which water may be supplied to potted plants consists of a felted fibre structure of substantial thickness. The mat may be made from scrap leather or leatherboard or asbestos and charcoal, and also from hair-felt boards treated with preservatives such as formaldehyde, beta-naphthol, and phenols. Asbestos may be blended with leather fibre, and other ingredients such as charcoal, Cellite, kieselguhr, sand, wool, hair, &c. added. Wool, hair or peat mass may be substituted for the asbestos. Sizing material such as rosin and wax sizes may be used with asbestos and sand. The materials used may be moulded in flat pressure moulds, and ornamented by pressing into their surfaces coloured pebbles, shells, ceramics, &c., or by sprinkling them with dyes, pigments, &c. If cellulose fibre is included it may first be treated with a fungicidal chemical such as sodium silicofluoride. Phosphates, nitrates and other fertilizers may be incorporated in the mats. Sheets from the make-up roller may be stretched between layers of wool felt, pressed to squeeze out water and afterwards dried by heat.
