Abstract

497,051. Springs. TURNER, E. Aug. 6, 1937, No. 21677. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient device, particularly for use in a vehicle suspension, con sists of a helical coil spring having adjacent surfaces of some or all the coils connected together through a rubber helix, e.g. by vulcanization with out the internal or external peripheries of the coils thus connected being embedded in the rubber. In one form, Fig. 1, a rubber helix 12 is vulcanized to a helical spring 11 when the spring is extended beyond its unstressed length so that when the spring is unstressed or compressed, the rubber is bulged out beyond the coils. Alternatively, the spring may be compressed when the rubber is applied to it. In another form, Fig. 4, the middle coils of the spring are connected by a helix whose X-section diminishes towards the lower portion of the spring ; the top two coils 17 are embedded and the lower coils are free. Specification 497,008 is referred to.
