Abstract

497,020. Filters ; casting composite articles. BROWN, F. V., and AIRCRAFTINGS, Ltd. June 10, 1937, No. 16129. [Class 46] [Also in Group XXII] A filter element comprises a longitudinally corrugated cylinder b of wire gauze with rings d cast thereon at either end, and, optionally, one or more intermediate rings. Longitudinal bars may also be cast on the cylinder between the intermediate and the end rings. The element is held in position against an outlet spigot g, Fig. 1, within a casing a by a spring y which bears against a plug z, closing the lower end of the element, and against a coned member n. The member n is supported bayonet-joint fashion on lugs x on the inner wall of the casing and has downwardly extending ears o screwed to receive a nut p by means of which a lower cover h with packing ring l and a flange m is held against the bottom of the casing: A contractible ring clip s is placed around the nut p and the adjacent part of the cover h to prevent unintentional loosening of the nut. In the modified apparatus shown in Fig. 3, the spring 22 bears against the lower cover 7 which is held against the bottom of the casing by a boss 13 which screws through a nut 5 fixed in a cup 4 supported bayonet-joint fashion on the outside wall of the casing. For casting the rings, the hollow gauze body is slipped over a collapsable core and placed in a multipart mould so that slots f, Fig. 1, are opposite the gates, metal being then poured into the mould.
