Abstract

496,679. Sealing lead - in conductors through vitreous walls. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen) June 14, 1937, No. 16450. [Class 36] Lead-in conductors for sealing into vitreous material and in the form of strips are crinkled, or perforated, or both, or are otherwise so formed that of every surface through the strip parallel to the surfaces constituting the envelope of the strip a substantial part lies outside the material of the strip. Fig. 4 shows a plane strip crinkled in a direction parallel to its length and sealed into a glass pinch. The length of the strip within the pinch is preferably less than the breadth of the strip. The strip may also be provided with transverse crinkles, in which case the angles of the crinkles may be cut off so that the strip is both crinkled and perforated. Portions of the angles of the crinkles in the construction shown in Fig. 4 may be removed. Fig. 8 shows a plane strip lead-in conductor 1 punched with holes 2. The strip may be formed into a cylinder, two such cylinders of different diameters being coaxially arranged, for instance as shown in Figs. 9 and 10, and sealed through the vitreous wall to form a compound lead-in conductor. Specifications 22911A/06, [Class 39], and 461,262 are referred to.
