Abstract

496,091. Universal joints. HARDY, SPICER, & CO., Ltd., and MIDDLETON, F. A. March 11, 1938, No. 7585. [Class 80 (ii)] In a flexible coupling-disc of the kind comprising superposed layers of rubberized fabric, preferably canvas, vulcanized together, the usual reinforcing plates 14 are permanently attached to the disc solely by bonding during the moulding process, so that the disc is pierced only for the bolt-holes. The vulcanizing mould is in three parts 10, 11, 12, the parts 10, 12 having recesses to receive the plates 14, and pins 13 over which the previously drilled layers are passed. The plates 14 are prepared for bonding by being brass-plated, and are coated with rubber solution to hold them in the recesses in the mould. The threads of the individual layers of fabric are arranged at an angle to one another. Specification 268,177, [Class 80 (ii)], is referred to.
