Abstract
495,855. Door &c. fastenings. BAUER, K. Feb. 15, 1937, No. 4554. Void. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1936. [Class 44] Relates to fastenings for doors of the kind in which a bolt is held retracted by means released upon closure of the door, to allow the bolt to be shot by a spring. Fig. 3 shows a pair of oppositely directed bolts 8, 9 withdrawn simultaneously by a rockable member 2 having terminal slots engaged by pins 6, 7 on bolts 8, 9 respectively The bolts are shot by a tension spring 10. The casing 1 carried a rotatable sleeve 20, Fig. 2, the end of which has a key-hole slot 22. The sleeve also carries a handle 15 which is held in, or returned to, normal position by a torsion spring 21. To effect withdrawal of the bolts, the handle is coupled to the rocker 2 by a key 12, the inner end of which engages a sectorshaped depression 11 in the rocker. Rotation of the handle then withdraws the bolts, which are held retracted by an arm 17 engaging a notch 16 in the rocker 2 under action of a spring 19. The form of the depression 11 allows the handle to be returned to normal position by spring 21 without shooting the bolts, and the key may be then withdrawn. The inner ends of the bolts extend beyond the depression 11 and act as wards co-operating with corresponding notches in the key. On closing the door, the projecting bevelled head 23 of a slide 18 which carries arm 17 is pushed in by contact with the door post, arm 17 being released from notch 16, allowing the bolts to be shot. The head 23, which is of rectangular section, is guided in an apertured plate 25 and has screw connection with slide 18 so that its extent of projection may be adjusted. The bolts engage keepers comprising a conical mouth 27, Fig. 8, and a cylindrical inner portion 28 secured by a screw 29. Fig. 10 shows a modification'in which the bolts 31 are connected with the rockable member 34 by links pivoted thereto at 33 and to the bolts at 32. The outer ends of the links are guided in slots 38. The bolts are shot by a tension spring 47 connected to member 34 and to the back plate 36 of the casing. A rotatable disc 39 mounted on the cover 41 of the case has an upstanding sleeve with key-hole slot, the inner end of the key co-operating with a recess 45 in member 34. In this form, no handle is provided, retraction of the bolts being effected by rotation of the key. The disc is biassed to normal position by a tension spring 48 anchored to the disc and the cover 41, which is spaced from plate 36 by pillars 58, 59. The pillars also support a number of apertured plates 43 acting as wards in co-operation with notches in the key. As the bolts are retracted, the links swing inwards so that their edges engage notches in the key to prevent its withdrawal until the bolts have been shot. The bolts are held retracted by a lug 55 on a slide 53 engaging a notch 57 in the lower link 30 under action of a plate spring 54. The slider carries the adjustable head 56 which is pushed inwards when the door is closed to release lug 55 and allow the bolts to shoot. In both modifications accidental removal of the key may be prevented by a spring detent within the key-hole slot engaging a recess in the key.
