[Class 29] An evaporator for a refrigerating mach ine includes a metallic conduit 25 having a number o: indentations 28 form ing reservoirs for trapping the liquic refrigerant during the inoperative periods of the machine. The conduit is formed by indentation of at least one pair of sheet-metal members secured together face to face. During operation, liquid and gaseous refrigerant is admitted to the conduit 25 at the upper end 17 and is withdrawn at 18 to pass to the compressor 13 and condenser 14. In a modification, the evaporating coil forms part of a freezing shelf.
