Abstract

494,704. Trueing grinding - wheels. NEWMAN, W. H. June 25, 1937, No. 17769. [Classes 60 and 124] Apparatus for shaping grinding-wheels comprises a diamond B carried by an arm B<1> on a spindle B<2> oscillatable in a frame C, and adjustable axially by a micrometer screw C <1>. The frame C is mounted by a bearing C<9> and a hollow shaft C' in a slide D, so that the frame C also may oscillate during the oscillation of the spindle B<2>, and the movement is imparted to the spindle by means of a pinion B<4> thereon engaging a rack B<5> secured to a piston B<7> movable downwardly in a cylinder C<2> by a spring B<8>, and upwardly by fluid supplied by a passage C<3> in the frame C, which communicates with the hollow shaft C<4>. On the shaft C<4> is a pinion C<6> engaging a rack D<1> moved on the slide D by a piston D<4> in a cylinder D<5>, the reciprocation of the rack and piston thus serving to oscillate the frame C ; stops D<7> limit the movement by engagement with an arm C<7> on the shaft C<4>, which arm moves over graduations on a plate D<2> to indicate the angle of swing of the frame. The movements of the spindle B<2> and the frame C are controlled byo two cam-operated piston valves in the fluid supply, the speeds of the cams being so arranged that the spindle B<2> is oscillated rapidly whilst the frame C oscillates slowly.
