493,328. Resilient engine-mountings. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. May 24, 1937, No. 14336. Convention date, May 23, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXIII and XXXI] A resilient mounting for engines of motor vehicles and aircraft includes rubber blocks 3, 4, 5 inside a frame 2 disposed substantially in a plane containing the centre of gravity of the aircraft and carried from the vehicle or aircraft by a framework surrounding the rear part of the engine. In one form, the frame 2 is mounted on the fuselage 6 by struts 7, 8, 9. The resilient mountings more remote from the centre of gravity of the engine may be made more yielding under stress than those nearer the centre of gravity. The struts 9 may be omitted or be hinged to the fuselage. In a modification, the frame 2 is made in sections each connected to the resilient mountings and connected to the fuselage by hinged struts. A cowling may surround the engine and this may be formed in sections corresponding to the sections of the frame 2 and further provision may be made for relative movement between the forward and after portions of the cowling. The mounting may comprise a rubber-block 15 bonded to plates 22. The plates 22 may be formed with eyes to facilitate securing to the engine or mounting. This arrangement facilitates replacement or changing the characteristic of the mounting.
