Abstract

A material for enhancing plant growth or quality comprises an alkaline mixture of a plurality of water-soluble mineral double salts and a water-insoluble adhesive carrier. The material may be applied directly to the soil or may be applied to seeds, tubers, roots or the like by crating them with a composition containing the mixture, e.g. an aqueous emulsion. Suitable adhesive water-insoluble carriers include rubber or rubber-latex, plant, saps having sticky water-insoluble ingredients, resins or gums. Suitable water-soluble double salts include metallic ammonium phosphates, e.g. those of sodium, potassium, lithium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, and iron (ferric), or soluble double salts of silica and ammonia. In addition, the material may contain other inorganic ingredients such as potassium phosphates, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium iodide, soluble cobalt salts, soluble fluorides, radio-active salts, bromine salts, compounds of nickel, selenium, fluorine or sulphur, carbon, kieselguhr, calcium carbonate, wood ashes, an alkaline mineral water containing sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium bicarbonates with sodium chloride and sulphate, an earthy water containing magnesium and calcium bicarbonates, sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium sulphates, iron carbonate and silicic acid and an Aachen water containing potassium sodium and ammonium chlorides, sodium iodide, bromide, fluoride, sulphate, bicarbonate and hydrosulphide, lithium, calcium, strontium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron and zinc bicarbonates, calcium hydrophosphate, meta boric acid and meta silicic acid. The material may also contain or organic matter such as sterilized leather or leather powder from which glue, gelatine and fats have been extracted, ground paper, humus, stable manure, green or vegetable matter, hop manure, guano impregnated with gum, wax, sap or resin emulsions, garden soil, yeast, maize oil, indole acetic acid, naphthyl acetic acids, and waxes such as beeswax, carnauba wax, japanese waxes, paraffin wax, ceresin, and crude ozokerite. Specification 448,849 is referred to.
