491,941. Wearing-apparel. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1936, No. 33333. Void. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1935. [Class 141] [Also in Groups VIII and XIV] Wearing - apparel such as overcoats, robes, dresses, jackets, trousers, and waistcoats, is stiffened over at least a part of its area by a reinforcing layer comprising a thermoplastic material at least partly coalesced to the wearing- apparel. The thermoplastic material may be cellulose esters or cellulose ethers, may be present as a coating on non-thermoplastic fabric or as a fabric containing thermoplastic yarn, may contain plasticizers and may be united to the wearing apparel by sewing or by heat and pressure. The plasticizer may be applied to the non-thermoplastic fabric. During application of heat and pressure, water or an aqueous solution of alcohol with or without a plasticizer, or wet steam may be applied to the coalescent area. Thus a coat collar comprises layers of velvet 11, canvas 12, and thermoplastic material containing fabric 13, the body of the coat comprises a layer of thermoplastic material 6, and the coat edge and pocket flap edge contain one or two tapes 16 and one tape 22 respectively containing thermoplastic material. Similarly, by means of strips the waistband and side seams of trousers may be stiffened.
