Abstract

491,736. Valve generating circuits. ALWAY, E. J. March 18, 1937, No. 8052. [Class 40 (v)] The characteristic of an amplifying valve is selected so that rectilinear saw tooth waves are produced when the grid potential is varied in accordance with the exponential discharge of a condenser. The condenser 2 is charged through valve 3 or through a separate rectifier when a synchronizing pulse is received and is discharged slowly through resistance 4. The voltage on the grid of valve 3 varies exponentially but the valve is so chosen that its curvature characteristic compensates for the exponential grid variation and the current in the anode circuit has an approximately rectilinear relation to time. The output of valve 3 is taken off through condenser 8 to terminal 10. To provide a balanced output a second valve 12 may be connected as shown, the balanced output being taken off at 10, 18. Adjustment of the tapping on resistance 20 enables any bias to be superimposed on the saw tooth oscillation.
