Abstract

491,410. Automatic control systems. TRUECOLOUR FILM, Ltd., and WHALEN, F. C. Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31469. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] For automatically controlling a camera diaphragm 1 by means of a photo-cell 6 provided with a diaphragm 4 moving in unison with the diaphragm 1, a mirror galvanometer 7 is connected to the cell 6 to control the action of a, beam of light from a source 8 on another cell 10, which in turn controls the diaphragms 1, 4. The cell 10 is connected to a thermionic valve 11 controlling a relay 12, 13 to operate a motor 12 one way or the other to adjust the diaphragms to maintain the illumination of the cell 6 at a predetermined value. In a modification, two control cells 10 are used with two thermionic valves and relays, two mirrors 9 being used to throw the light on one cell or the other according to the deflection of the galvanometer. In another modification, the reversible motor 12 is replaced by a differential gear wheel mechanism driven by a continuously rotating shaft and transmitting rotation to the worms 5, 3 in one direction or the other according to the operation of brakes by the relay or relays. These devices may be pre-set to desired values. When an illuminant is used as in photoprinting, means may be provided to adjust the intensity of the illumination. Specification 429,676, [Group XX], is referred to.
