488,603. Glass manufacture. DUDEK, W., LEHNIGK, K., and POPELLA, H. Jan. 3, 1938, No. 124. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1937. [Class 56] In the manufacture of hollow ware having an integral solid portion III, the latter is moulded first under the pressure of a die n which also causes the formation of a flange I by which the top part of the glass mass engages the member e. The mould parts c are then withdrawn whereupon relative movement takes place under the influence of a spring (not shown) between the die n and the frame d and air under pressure is admitted through the pipe k. At the same time, the mould b is lowered so that the part II is simultaneously drawn and blown. Finally a rotating finishing mould f is brought into engagement with the blown portion. The invention is applicable to the manufacture of a base with an ornamental upper part or a lamp shade. Reference is made to a known method in which the base mould is removed and the blank is rotated during the simultaneous drawing and blowing operation, compressed air being introduced intermittently. A further known method is referred to in which after the base has been pressed, the charge is transferred to a second mould in which it is blown.
