Abstract
488,154. Dynamometers. SIEMENS APPARATE UND MASCHINEN GES. Dec. 2, 1937, No. 33366. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1936. [Class 106 (ii)] A torque-measuring device more particularly for the driving gears of aircraft comprises pressure responsive electrical measuring devices rigidly carried by the gear casing which act as stops bearing against a reaction ring capable of limited angular movement under the force due to torque reaction. Power is transmitted from a hollow driving shaft 11 through planet gears 9 of an epicyclic gear to a wheel on the propeller shaft or through bevel gear and planet wheels to the propeller shaft. The wheels 9 or teeth on the bevel wheel 10 gear with a sun wheel 3 which has a limited movement defined by lugs 4 on the wheel 3 projecting into slots in the casing and is prevented from axial movement by the flange 7. These lugs 4 engage electric elements 6 carried by the casing and take the pressure due to the reaction of the gear which is a measure of the torque transmitted. The current is transmitted to a meter.
